Napa, Bordeaux, Tuscany, and the Finger Lakes… Ok, so that might be a bit of a stretch, but if this unbelievably good Riesling from Wiemer is any indication, New York will one day assume a vaunted spot next to the world’s great wine regions. The Wiemer is dry – not totally devoid of sugar, but just about. And it’s got a very appealing orange zest, lime, mineral and honey bouquet. Besides being a wine of outstanding balance and quality, I love that grapes from the Finger Lakes can produce a wine that has that classic whiff of Petroleum that comes with the finest German Rieslings. Don’t forget, Riesling loves food – this is a killer pairing with turkey, pork, and more types of cheese than you can possible imagine.
