Every great love is built on mystery – on the desire to know more and the impossibility of knowing it all. Wine is no exception. For many of us, what’s in the glass is the beginning and end of an infinite exploration. Where did it come from? Who made it? How’d it get there? Without these questions, wine might be just another tasty beverage. Fortunately, wine’s mysteries run deep. Uncovering them; and knowing there are more to come, make it so much more than a drink.

This season’s class series is an unraveling of sorts. An exploration of some of some of the world’s most misunderstood and underappreciated regions, their mysteries and their wines.

Each class in the series will be held at the Firehouse Gallery on Church Street in Burlington. Join us in this beautiful space as we pursue the mysteries of the grape.

Alsace: Delicate Thunder – Sunday, September 20th

Alsace is an under-the-radar sort of wine region. But for those who’ve had a glass of Alsatian wine, it’s one that’s never forgotten. The region’s wines run the gamut from delicate and feminine to steely, powerful and dramatic. They make for a tremendous compliment to food, but the don’t play second fiddle.

This class is a trip – by glass – into the ancient Vosges Mountains and the vineyards of Alsace.

Come along for the ride. Reserve your seats today. $40/person

Germany: Unraveling the Code – Sunday, November 1st

Germany produces some of the most under appreciated and misunderstood wines in the world. Are they dry or sweet? Sparkling or still? And what’s with those labels and all the huge words and weird codes? This complexity belies an even deeper complexity in the wines themselves which, glass for glass, makes them some of the greatest produced anywhere. German wines demand your love. We’ll help you give it to them.

Learn how to unravel the ancient code that hides Germany’s great wines. Reserve your seats today. $40/person

Argentina: Beyond Malbec – Sunday, November 15th

Since Argentina first burst onto the international wine scene in the early 1990’s, her rich, intense Malbec bottlings have certainly become pillars of the country’s reputation for excellent wines (and huge value). But over the last two decades, Argentina has also quietly become one of the world’s most innovative wine producing countries.

While there’s still plenty to enjoy in terms of Argentinean Malbec, it ain’t the only game in town. From delicate, aromatic whites fashioned from Torrontes, to powerful, brooding mountain-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, there’s so much to explore.

Learn more about Argentina’s beautiful wines. Reserve your seats today. $40/person

Portugal: Ancient Revolutionary – Sunday, December 13th

All of a sudden everybody’s talking about Portuguese wines – as though they’re the new kid on the block. Somehow, the delicious port-induced haze that has covered the country’s other wines, has started to lift. And, while we love her fortified wines, Portugal has much more to offer. You don’t have to take our word for it. Here’s what Decanter Magazine had to say:

” The spectacular Douro valley seems an unlikely place for a vinous revolution. For 300 years it slumbered along, quietly producing the world’s most venerated fortified wine. But change has happened, and happened fast; in the past two decades, the Douro has burst onto the scene with an exciting new wave of intense table wines that have created a benchmark in terms of quality…”

Join the revolution! Reserve your seats today. $40/person
